What
do we do?
S4L has
piloted
a groundbreaking
football
outreach
programme
for asylum
seeker
and refugee
men of
the Ladywood
area in
Birmingham,
helping
to extend
participation
in sport
to otherwise
marginalised
and excluded
groups.
Sessions
incorporate
opportunities
to socialise,
keep fit,
and enjoy
sport,
and have
been attended
by men
from all
over the
world -
Sudan,
Iran, Afghanistan,
Togo, Ivory
Coast,
Congo,
Ethiopia,
and Kuwait
to name
but a few – giving
the initiative
a true “All
Nations” character.

What
have we
achieved?
For the
first time
asylum
seeker
hostels
have been
able to
refer clients
to local
sports
projects;
men from
over 15
nations
have been
united
through
the universal
language
of sport;
the restoring
qualities
of exercise
have been
utilised
to directly
tackle
the issues
of isolation
and depression;
and the
first steps
towards
integration
have been
pioneered
by bringing
asylum
seeker
teams and
local teams
together.

What
do our
clients
think?
“I
feel reborn
after running
around”
Mamadou
Saliou
Barry,
Guinea-Conakry
(after
his first
session
with S4L)

What do
our partner
organisations
think?
“the
men greatly
appreciate
this weekly
opportunity
for physical
exercise
and social
interaction...and
we have
been very
impressed
with the
way Sport4LifeUK
has quickly
built up
a client
base in
what is
generally
deemed
to be a ‘hard
to reach’ group.” Jeremy
Thompson,
Befriending
Coordinator,
